In life, we often rush from one moment to the next, caught up in the whirlwind of our daily challenges and emotions. It's easy to feel overwhelmed, unsure of which direction to take next. For me, learning to pause, pray, and seek God's guidance has been transformative, thanks to the wisdom found in the 12 Steps and Al-Anon.
Step 1: Admitting Powerlessness
My journey began with Step 1: admitting powerlessness over my struggles. It was a humbling realization that I couldn't control everything on my own. In moments of uncertainty or stress, I used to react impulsively, driven by fear or frustration. But through Al-Anon and the 12 Steps, I learned the importance of pausing before reacting.
Step 2: Believing in a Higher Power
Step 2 taught me to believe in a Higher Power greater than myself. For me, that Higher Power is God. Taking a moment to pause and pray became more than just a habit—it became a lifeline. Before making decisions, big or small, I found solace in seeking God's guidance through prayer and reflection.
Step 3: Surrendering to God's Will
Surrendering to God's will in Step 3 was a pivotal moment. Instead of relying solely on my own understanding, I began to trust in God's plan for me. Pausing to pray allowed me to align my actions with His purpose, finding peace in knowing that His guidance would lead me forward.
Step 11: Seeking through Prayer and Meditation
Step 11 emphasizes the importance of prayer and meditation to improve conscious contact with God. Pausing to pray not only centered my thoughts but also strengthened my faith. Whether facing challenges or celebrating victories, I found clarity and strength through moments of intentional connection with God.
Al-Anon: Finding Support and Community
In Al-Anon, I discovered a supportive community where others shared similar experiences and struggles. Pausing together to pray and share reflections deepened our bonds and reinforced the importance of seeking spiritual guidance in all aspects of life.
Pausing, praying, and intentionally seeking God's guidance through His Word or prayer has transformed my journey. Through the teachings of the 12 Steps and Al-Anon, I've learned that in moments of uncertainty or difficulty, taking a moment to pause allows God's wisdom to illuminate the path forward. It's not just about finding answers but embracing a journey guided by faith and trust in God's plan.
By incorporating these practices into my daily life, I've found a renewed sense of peace and purpose. Each pause is a reminder of God's presence and His unwavering love, guiding me through life's challenges with grace and wisdom. As I continue on this journey, I am grateful for the lessons learned through God, the 12 Steps, and Al-Anon—teaching me the power of pausing, praying, and trusting in His guidance every step of the way.
