Al-Anon is a place where you can find help for yourself when someone you love has a drinking problem. It is not a place to move your old obsession onto a new target.

You may have spent years watching the alcoholic, worrying about every choice they made, and trying to fix them. When you come to Al-Anon, that same intense focus can easily shift to the people around you. You start watching other members. You look for what is wrong with them. You decide they are not working the program the “right” way. You tell them what they should do differently. This is not recovery. This is the same old obsession wearing a new hat.

When you take on service work, the risk grows bigger. You may feel it is your job to correct everyone. You point out mistakes. You dig for problems. You turn meetings and committees into places where you vent every frustration. That kind of behavior hurts the very people who are trying to get well. It also keeps you stuck in the same restless, unhappy patterns that brought you here.

Real help looks different. Focus on the spirit of recovery instead of the letter of the law. The program is not a rulebook for judging others. It is a path for changing yourself. Use your sponsor. Stick with a home group. Work the steps. Rely on God. These simple tools keep you grounded. They help you offer quiet support instead of loud criticism. They turn you into someone who lifts others up rather than someone who becomes a burden.

When you stay in your own lane and use the tools the program gives you, you become useful. You stop hunting for flaws in other people. You start living the principles yourself. That is how Al-Anon works best—for you and for everyone else in the room.

You Gottawanna find recovery - now move on and live free stop hating.
