Choosing Love over Hate: Applying Al-Anon Principles to Improve Ourselves

Have you ever noticed how much time we spend keeping an eye on others, making sure they're doing things right? It's like we're so busy watching and documenting their every move, holding them accountable for every little thing they say or do. But wait a moment, let's take a step back and think about something important: how does this fit into the principles of Al-Anon?

Al-Anon teaches us twelve steps that guide us toward a better life, a life of growth and understanding. One of these steps tells us to focus on ourselves, to work on improving our own lives instead of pointing fingers at others. So, if we're spending so much time looking at what others are doing, are we really living by these principles?

Imagine if someone turned the tables and started exposing our own thoughts, actions, and true intentions. How would we feel if all the times we've contributed to others' fears and angers were laid out for everyone to see? It might make us uncomfortable to think about how our actions have played a part in other people's troubles.

When we spread hate and lies, we're not living in alignment with Al-Anon's teachings. Instead of focusing on getting better and working on our own issues, we're allowing negative feelings to take over. This can cause harm not only to others but also to ourselves. Hate can eat away at us, making us bitter and unhappy.

Now, let's think about this: where does God fit into all of this? Al-Anon encourages us to find strength and guidance from a higher power, whatever that might mean to each of us. When we're consumed by hate and lies, are we really listening to that higher power? Probably not. Instead, we're letting negativity control our thoughts and actions.

So, how can we turn things around? Let's make a conscious effort to apply the principles of Al-Anon in our lives. Instead of obsessing over what others are doing, let's focus on our own growth. Let's replace hate with love and work on building positive relationships with ourselves and those around us. By doing so, we'll be aligning ourselves with the teachings of Al-Anon and moving closer to the path of self-improvement.

In the end, it's up to us to decide how we want to live our lives. Do we want to be consumed by hate and negativity, or do we want to choose a path of growth and love? Let's take a step back, reflect on our actions, and make a conscious effort to live by the principles of Al-Anon. Only then can we truly make a positive impact on ourselves and the world around us.
