Choosing Kindness and Recovery Over Hatred and Lies

Have you ever heard the saying, "You have not failed if you can admit what a waste of time and resources you're giving away by hating others, spreading lies, and obsessing on them to cover up your defects and hide your obsession?" It might sound like a mouthful, but it's actually a very important message about being a better person.

Let's break it down step by step in a way that's easy to understand, especially for fifth graders like you.

**Step 1: Admitting Mistakes**

The first part of this saying talks about admitting when we make mistakes. We all make mistakes sometimes, like saying mean things about others or telling lies. Admitting our mistakes means saying, "I did something wrong, and I'm sorry." It's like saying sorry when you accidentally bump into someone or spill your juice.

**Step 2: Stop Hating Others**

The next part talks about not hating others. Hate is a very strong and hurtful feeling. When we hate someone, we feel angry and mean towards them. But hating others doesn't make us feel better; it makes us feel worse. It's better to try to understand why we feel this way and see if we can change it.

**Step 3: No More Lies**

Spreading lies is like telling stories that aren't true. It's not fair to the people we tell lies about, and it can hurt their feelings. It's also not good for us because it makes us feel guilty. So, the saying tells us to stop telling lies and start telling the truth.

**Step 4: Seek Help from God**

The next part is about asking God for help. You might wonder, "Who is God?" Well, many people believe in God, and they think God can help them become better people. Asking God for help is like asking for guidance or strength to do the right thing.

**Step 5: Focus on Recovery**

Now, what does "recovery" mean? Recovery means getting better, like when you're sick, and you start feeling well again. In this saying, "recovery" means getting better as a person. We do this by stopping the bad things we were doing (like hating and lying) and starting to do good things instead.

**Step 6: Share Good Answers**

Finally, the saying encourages us to share the good things we learn. When we make mistakes and learn from them, we gain wisdom. Sharing that wisdom means helping others not make the same mistakes we did. It's like being a good friend and offering advice when someone needs it.

In summary, this saying teaches us that it's okay to admit when we've made mistakes, but it's important to stop hating, telling lies, and obsessing over things that don't matter. Instead, we can ask for help from God, focus on becoming better people, and share the good things we've learned. By following these steps, we can be kinder and happier individuals who make the world a better place.
